Research theme
Entrepreneurship is often suggested as an answer to the current challenges for society and environment. To develop enterprising competences, additional insights are needed. Through this programme, we acquire knowledge on effective approaches and initiatives that promote enterprising skills for target groups with a distance to the labour market. Further, we research how we can better support under-represented entrepreneurs in a Flemish and international context. The ultimate goal? Contributions to an inclusive business environment.
Enterprising skills and inclusive entrepreneurship
What are we researching and for whom?
Developing enterprising skills is an important priority at Flemish and European level, to tackle the current social challenges. But there is little insight in the impact of entrepreneurship education, especially for target groups with a distance to the labour market. Additionally, there is insufficient attention for thresholds and gaps that under-represented entrepreneurs experience when their enterprise is starting or growing. There is a need of additional insights to provide better support for this group of entrepreneurs, both in Flanders and in international context.
Desired outcome
By acquiring new insights on effective approaches, and by trying to understand the specific challenges of under-represented entrepreneurs, we want to contribute to inclusive entrepreneurship. We will share our knowledge and insights in an international context. The impact of it is empowerment of youths and vulnerable target groups, support from under-represented entrepreneurs, and a more inclusive enterprising ecosystem, to name a few.

Inclusive entrepreneurship
We research the specific challenges and levers of under-represented entrepreneurs. We also deal with the difficulties in the enterprising ecosystems so that various organisations can offer better support to that target group.
Inclusive entrepreneurship in the global south
Together with other partners in the global south, we research the obstacles and levers of under-represented entrepreneurs, especially women and youths. We exchange knowledge and insights from various contexts.
